Memora Keep

Prerequisites

  • Memora Keep installed on a Windows PC or Mac
  • An Android phone with WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business and a USB cable that supports data transfer
  • Enough free space in your local archive for the backup and media
  • Access to the backup encryption settings and key requested by the client
  1. 1

Open the WhatsApp module from the Dashboard

Start Memora Keep and open the WhatsApp module from the Dashboard. This is where the Android backup flow begins.

Connect your Android phone with a USB cable

Plug the Android phone in over USB. The module shows whether a device is detected, and switches to the connected state once Android is ready.

Back up WhatsApp to local storage

Choose the option to back up WhatsApp to local storage on the computer, then confirm. The data is written to the archive folder you chose, not to a cloud account.

Turn on the end-to-end encrypted backup

Turn on the end-to-end encrypted backup and set the encryption key when prompted. Keep the key somewhere safe: it is what decrypts the backup later.

Wait while the WhatsApp data is backed up

The chat data and its media are copied to your own computer. Keep the phone connected until the run finishes.

Open the account and browse its chats

In the WhatsApp account list, open the backed-up account and choose a conversation. Review its messages and available media. The backup and browsing workflow ends here; no iPhone conversion or phone restore is needed.

Notes

These backup steps are also the first part of the Android-to-iPhone transfer guide. Stop here if you only want a readable archive on your computer. Follow the current client instructions for the encryption setup and keep the backup key private.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an iPhone for this backup?

No. This guide stops after backing up the Android data and opening it in the local archive.

Does the phone need to stay connected while I read the chats?

Keep it connected during backup. Once import has completed, you can read the archived conversations without the phone.

Can I use a Google Drive backup instead?

Yes. Use the separate Google Drive WhatsApp import workflow if your backup is stored in that account.
